“…. Very able men for the work of the …. House of God” (1 Chronicles 9:13)
The Pastoral Care ministry is a servant ministry to the Saints and the House of God. This ministry encompasses the Deacon Board, Usher Board, and Altar ministry. These areas of ministry all have in common the characteristics of a “Servant”.
Deacons are commissioned to be servants and appointed to teach the Word of God. The church has to be led by precept and by example. Deacons and Deaconess should provide such leadership in the Body of Christ that spiritual unity is strengthened. In order for spiritual growth to manifest in this local assembly, Deacons must genuinely care, watch, and have concern for the members.
Deacons are an extension of the five fold ministry, thus freeing those in that capacity to strengthen their inner man through consecration.
The Altar ministry is a group of men and women dedicated to intercessory prayer for those who are in immediate need of the Holy Spirit’s intervention into their lives.
Their work is done primarily in the sanctuary following the Word of God. It is there at the altar, where the backslider, wounded, broken hearted, hopeless, addicted, and the lost are ministered to for their hurting souls. Salvation and restoration are the two main goals for this ministry.
